QCon 2007 - <@proz_> please downplay all the butt sex that happened :(

3 days. 114 games played. 140TB shared on DC++.

Quakecon was unbelievably fun. Some of our very own Quakeworlders played in the Quad Damage tournament and did very well. Congratulations to proz, FienD, and KovaaK in placing in the top 16. Also, congratulations to plopster, who hasn’t played Quake in years, for placing in the top 32.

All the Quakeworld attendees were: cyan, myth, KovaaK, DC`beast, Traxler, maelwys, Bravado, PlaZmaz, r4, proz, plopster, aardappel, and FienD

Every Deathmatch Demo (no demos for Clan Arena or Zerg Rush), are available for download.

I’m also planning on uploading all the videos and pictures taken at Quakecon. I will post them here when it’s completed.

To recap the events of Quakecon, I have interviewed one of the players who has attended Quakecon for the past three years, a legendary name in North American Quakeworld, boss myth.

First off, let’s get some background info out of the way. How old are you, where you from, what computer equipment do you use, and how long have you been rocking Quakeworld, what do you do for a living?

I’m 19 and I’m from Taiwan but I currently live in Texas. I have a Dell Dimension 9100, Razer Diamondback, and a boring Dell keyboard. Ive been playing Quakeworld since March 2001. In the last 2 months, I was working at The Texas Zoo as an intern but as of right now I’m still a student studying Biology and Zoology.

How did you enjoy Quakecon this year?

I thought it was awesome! I was able to meet other fellow Quakers that haven’t gone to QCon yet! I also received lots and lots of free shirts. The only let down of this year’s QCon is the no show from Ult. Other than that, this Quakecon was great because I was also the winner of the arm wrestling competition and won a free case of Bawls. :D

Did you check out the vendor area or the tournament? If so, thoughts?

Yeah, of course! The vendor room was really cold while the BYOC was pretty warm so this big boy had to go to the vendor room to cool down. But to be serious, one of the reasons why the vendor area is very important this year was because of the Left 4 Dead exhibit. All of us wanted to play that game except it wasn’t downloadable for us on the DC++ hub (unlike the ET: Quake Wars beta) and the line to play in the exhibition area was always extremely long. :( The vendor area is a neat place to get free stuff and watch the tournament live but the food isnt free. boooooo! :D

Tell us your thoughts on Quakeworld and the BYOC.

I thought all of us played a good amount of Quakeworld. Plaz was probably the most fun to play against since he was really close to beating me, but of course, I had to pull off an Alucard from Hellsing and let Plaz think in his mind that he was going to win but in reality, the game was already over before we even went to QCon LOL. My favorite mode of play was and will always be 2on2 because I get to play with my boyfriend, boss cyan (KovaaK, stop hating 2on2s please). And of course, I really enjoyed playing The Boss’s QW mod “Zerg Rush.” This mod can easily be tournament material and for those who haven’t played it, you should give it a try! It gets really really intense at times.

PlaZmaz is one of your students in The Dojo; tell us about how you feel about his progress and the close duels you had with him.

Plazmaz is one of the newest members in The Dojo and has actually improved greatly. In the beginning of his training he was easily div4 but after our teachings, he has already risen to div 2 in a just few months. Aside from the kid’s natural talent, I think some of the reasons why he became the hardened Quaker he is now is because of cyan’s demand for him to be div2 by QCon, KovaaK’s secret aerowalk tips, and my constant “motivating” trash talk. ;)

Can you tell us about some of the funny moments during QCon?

Well, r4 challenged Bravado to some Super Street Fighter II Turbo and claimed that he could use vega/claw guy and ONLY press middle punch to beat him. Well, that matchup didn’t go too well since Bravado won and doesn’t even play Super Turbo. LOL. Furthermore, when I played versus r4 using E. Honda, a character I never use, I managed to beat him as well. HAHA!

Proz was one of the more funny guys at QCon. The first day we arrived when we were all waiting in line to get into the BYOC, proz was waiting with us. Black people are a rarity at QCon so everytime proz saw a black guy, he would scream out “MY BROTHA!!!!!! BLACK POWER!!!! WHAZA!!!” LOL. It was too funny because everyone in line (hundreds of people) would just give proz a horrified look.

Last, there was a skinny guy dressed up in a ninja costume with a posse following him. Personally, I identify myself as a pirate (thank you One Piece. fuck Naruto.) and this ninja was crossing my territory borders. The ninja saw us looking at him and he gave us a friendly wave. I then yelled out at him, “THIS IS PIRATE TERRITORY, BITCH! WHAT! COME HERE!” He and his entire gang stood frozen but never came because they knew if they approached me and my crew, we would pillage and rape their women. :(
