The Ogre Citadel returns to NQR. Kinda.

NQR 11

There has been much debate concerning the map-pool of the upcoming season of NQR. While the majority demanded that NQR stick to “the big three“, there have always been players that complained about the dullness of playing the same three maps for ten years.

One could have come up with the obvious solution: Let clans decide whether they want NQR to be TB3 or TB3+Kenya. The pleased majority decides, the minority is ignored. Well, I think we came up with something better than that.

When signing up to NQR 11, clans will be able to pick whether they want to play the “regular map-pool” or the “extended map-pool”. The regular map-pool will obviously consist of nothing but the big three. The extended map-pool on the other hand will consist of the big three as well as CMT3, CMT4, E2M2TDM and MIDCIT. That’s right, 7 maps in the pool.

And here comes the tricky bit: Clans that picked the extended map-pool can play all of the 7 maps, but only if their opponent picked the extended map-pool as well. If their opponent picked the regular map-pool, all played maps between these two clans will have to be part of “the big three”. With other words: Kenya-loving clans can battle each other on custom maps, but will have to stick to “the big three” when facing a clan that picked the regular map-pool.

Since the majority of all clans is going to stick to the regular map-pool, this change is obviously far from revolutionary, but it seems like the fairest compromise. We are hoping that more than just a handful of clans are going to vote for the extended map-pool. And if not, well… then at least we didn’t force Kenya on anyone who didn’t want it. Feedback is welcome as usual.

Signups will open shortly.

We thougt that this would be a good way to let people play "kenya" maps - if the opponent want's it to. Good solution!

e3m7 was one of the other maps we discussed - but we choosed to go with midcit that are more kenya then one of the e3* maps since we already took in e2m2tdm

Hopefully CMT4 gets played like 0 times so we can ditch that map for good though. It's a nothing but a crappy ctf map! How will the deciding map be selected in the extended map-pool? Perhaps a TB3 only decider might convince reluctant clan to go for the extended map-pool.

I think some forgot to write that in the article, if i remember the discussion right, the decider will ALWAYS be played on TB3. Not 100% sure what we came up with, but i think so anyway ;)

Cool, What happens though if....
If your clan opted for extended map pool when entering NQR 11. In the competition you face a team that also picked extended map pool. But for whatever reason your team on a particular night only want to play the TB3. Do you have to play extended then once you play a team that picked extended as well ?

Does that make sense ?

djevulsk

Is that such a big problem? Just pick TB3 as your own map. If you win that and lose the kenya one, then (if phrenic isn't mistaken) there will be a TB3 decider. So that's 2/3 TB3 maps as a worst case scenario, which isn't too bad, right?

pleuraXeraphim:

If your clan picks the extended map pool, and you are facing a clan that also picked the extended map pool, you have the privilegie to choose a custom map (but of course you don't have to do that, you can choose a TB3 map if you want). However if the opponent chooses a custom map, you will have to play that regardless of the current kenya-feelings you might have :)

This is for the simple reason that clans who signed for extended map pool can't simply use "go TB3!" as soon as their opponent picks a kenya map that they are bad at, that's just pure lameness :)

why would there be flame sassa? since I would never vote for playing the extended map pool I won't have to play any kenyas.. that's perfect for me :E

Depends on the team you're playing in hagge! [o] tb3 only? Sure don't know about easyriders :). Things like this creates drama! And everyone loves drama! Maybe this will split clans up. Some members like custom and others don't. Most team doesn't have 8 active members -> maybe new clans will be formed! Wiho! Worst case scenario: Qw dies, but that wont happen! :D

lol as if someone in [o] would want kenyas when e3m2 is not in the map pool :) and I'm sure easyriders will choose tb3, at least if you still want jOn in the clan =)

great news and nice comments.

I agree 100% with this rule. But it could be better imho. Optimized. Imo clans who choose to go to the extend map pool should be given the option to drop a map. one of 7. This would prevent that a clan would practise (specialize?) a given kenya map, for example MIDCIT; and take advantage of it when facing their opponents.

Besides that "advice", I wonder how the playoffs will work.

Big hugs from mushisan!
Portugal sucks but i kinda love it :) Go pt!

Hooraytio
Thursday 10th January, 2008

since they will only face kenyalovers then the other clan should have no problem playing their "homemap", dropping that map would make as much sense as if tb3 clans could drop a tb3 map each and then play the last map best of 3 imo...

Not sure i will participate. But anyways i see a problem with tb3-decider when clans play extend map-pool.

I'd rather see that clans drop maps if it's 1-1 after the first 2 rounds.

Because if team A picked dm2, team b: picked cmt3...

Where should a tb3-decider be played? Could let teams drop from tb3 i guess. but i don't think that is good.

soma
Friday 11th January, 2008

I don't really see the problem to be honest, willgurht. In a 7 map map-pool, clans could just both toss 3 maps with the remaining map being played. Or am I missing something here?

Hooraytio
Friday 11th January, 2008

didnt phrenic say: tb3 decider? so if a clan plays dm2 and the other play a custom map that leaves two maps for the decider? could be solved by just doing a cmd rnd e1m2 dm3 and let the server decide what map to be played

Hooraytio
Friday 11th January, 2008

or: remove tb3 as decider and toss maps untill 1 map is left out of the unplayed ones as soma said

Hagge
Friday 11th January, 2008

why remove tb3 as decider when tb3 is so much better than kenya? :E

djevulsk
Saturday 12th January, 2008

Soma, as i said above, TB3 decider might just make more clans pick the extended map-pool since they won't risk playing losing it because they don't know it as well the opposing clan. And since it's a 7 map pool with 1 brand new map (to me at least), that could very well happen.

So if both clans toss 3 maps, a true kenya loving clan would benefit from the fact that there is 4 kenya maps and just toss all of the the big three. A TB3 decider will just 'insure' that best clan wins, even if it might be a 2-1 win.

djevulsk
Saturday 12th January, 2008

I have no clue if my clan will go for regular or extended, but i'll only vote for extended if there's a TB3 decider.

Perhaps some official word on this is needed? Phrenic seems to think that there will be a TB3 decider while Soma doesn't.

djevulsk
Saturday 12th January, 2008

Or perhaps; TB3 decider unless both clans agree otherwise.

I'll stop spamming this thread now, but as long as kenya maps outnumbers TB3, I see a problem in the normal tossing of maps.

Hagge
Saturday 12th January, 2008

well that's nothing we'll have to get into dje since we will choose the tb3 system :D:D:D:D:D (c) nakoz

Zaq
Saturday 12th January, 2008

eh "seems like the fairest compromise"
the fairest compromise is that each clan has one map to choose as usual, whether its kenya or not shouldnt mather if its fairness your hunting.
so if im forced to play lets say e1m2, i should be able to force them to play cmt4 or similar. that is fair.
kenya is not forced to anyone, but tb3 is!
and im a dm2 lover in any case, but still...rätt ska va rätt!

"Clearly". We see the return of NQR, QW is starting to show up in big lans like Dreamhack & we have the nations cup thing coming up. Sure qw.nu is down atm, but qwdrama.com seems to have taken it's place anyway. I've seen the scene in worse conditions to be honest.
