QHLAN11: Last and least, the 4on4 tourney
QHLAN11’s 4on4 tournament started yesterday and managed to gain only 14 signed up teams. Unfortunately, from spectators point of view, most of these teams were mix teams. Only Suddendeath and Lege Artis were able to play with lineup full of familiar faces. However mix teams aren’t that bad thing because sometimes they actually bring some excitement to the tournament. At QHLAN11 two mix teams were able to make it through the group stage and get into the semi finals.

The first team was Firing Squad mix team including the legendary duo, razor and reppie along with the top4 1on1 tournament finishers, locust and mawe. If we had a 4on4 version of aerowalk in QuakeWorld, this mix team would probably be almost impossible beat on it. The other mix team’s name was TORBEN’s and their lineup consisted of the dane ParadokS and three swedes, interceptor, phren and grisling. As most people expected, this mix team was able to make their to the semi finals as well.
In the semi finals Firing Squad mix’s first opponent was none other than Lege Artis. All 5 maps were needed in order to find out the winner between these two teams and in the end Firing Squad was able to pull it off and win the spot in the grand final.

The other semi final match went down between Suddendeath and TORBEN’s. Suddendeath started strongly by showing their strength on e1m2 and winning the first by map 25 frags. After the close first map, TORBEN’s engines started to warm up and they took the next three maps in a row.

QHLAN is known for its very very late grand final matches and this year’s 4on4 final was no exception as it took place at around 05:00 (am). The grand final match was between the two mix teams, TORBEN’s and Firing Squad mix. Unlike the semi final matches, this match was already over in just three maps. Unfortunately we do not have the grand final map scores as of yet but they will be added as soon as we get them.

All in all, QHLAN11 was the reppie show as he won both 1on1 & 2on2 tournaments and to top it off took 2nd place in the 4on4 tournament. More demos from QHLAN will hopefully start appearing on Challenge-TV soon, so keep your eyes open in case you are interested in those.
