Use the force, Open source

Not using Linux as your main operating system.. duh? If you want to play most of the modern games its probably not for you. And guess what, Quake runs just fine on it. Other than that I don’t see why you should NOT use it. So hereby I invite the quake community to fetch the freshly released Ubuntu which should work better than ever.

Ever heard about Compiz or Beryl? It’s installed by default if the hardware supports it, and its also included in the livecd which also has the installer built into it.

Why not use Windows, like everybody else? Well if you have some spare time and want to learn something new, try it! It’s free both as in beer and in speech. Get it while it’s hot.

This is Beryl showing of just 2 plugins, cube and 3d effect.

Ran into some problems? Don’t know how things work? I’d be happy to help out with anything. Also #linux.qw is a somewhat unofficial place for support but i think the guys there can handle it ;)

Good luck with ezQuake's soundsystem & onboard soundcard... I wish they'll switch to SDL (or whatever Darkplaces uses) somewhen.

Ubuntu is great! If u are tired of Windows and want to try something new, this is for you. And if you somewhat "miss" DOS, this is definately for you!

what's best about ubuntu its the community. its VERY easy to find answers for your questions, just type " ubuntu" on google and voilá.

Here's a nice FAQ for beginners: http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Feisty

Feisty Fawn is the latest version btw, released last week.

For those of you who don't know.
Ubuntu is an ancient African word which roughly translated means "I don't know how to install Debian"

by the way! you can install Ubuntu on a NTFS partition inside a file. so if you have problems or you don't like Ubuntu, you boot into Windows and delete that file :)

this way you can test Ubuntu without repartitioning.

the installer is still in beta stage.. i'll post about the final version on qw.nu/forums when it comes out.

It doesn't :/
previous 2 versions I've tried worked better to install..
that's how far I've gotten with this :D
got some help though, think it'll work any day now :)
but yea, the community is helpful just like the qw-community
